IMEHO Tour 2026
The queen of the American neo-soul will bring her new live concept IMEHO to Belgium in October. Even without releasing any new music, earlier this month, she kicked off her new world tour in Tokyo, where she presented this special concept for the first time under the title An Intimate Experience with Erykah Badu. IMEHO is not a traditional concert series, but an intimate, largely impromptu experience in which voice, piano and percussion merge. Together with her long-standing musical partner RC Williams, Badu builds the performance in real time every night, without a fixed script. It is an artistic alter ego where each concert is unique and exists only once. She will bring the show to Bozar on 14 October;
The Dallas-born singer is one of the most inspiring and influential African-American artists of her generation. Her soul repertoire builds on the rich tradition of icons such as Aretha Franklin, Nina Simone and Chaka Khan, while in the warm, jazzy harmonies of her music also resounds the influence of greats like Miles Davis and John Coltrane. In addition, the legacy of Gil Scott-Heron is felt in her natural sense of spoken word and her strong connection with the hip-hop and soul scene of the 90’s and 2000’s, with which she regularly collaborated throughout her career (The Roots, J Dilla, Common, D’Angelo...). Her unique sound is further enriched by fun influences from artists such as Roy Ayers and the warm sounds of Jamaican dub and reggae.
Today again listening to her timeless, multi-platinum-winning debut album 'Baduizm' (1997) and then continuing with the double album 'Erykah Badu: Live' remains a fascinating experience, because her songs have not lost any power yet. With the more intimate and enveloping Mama’s Gun (2000) she confirms her innate sense of groove and her talent as a composer. On stage, she builds a legendary reputation thanks to magnetic performances full of breathtaking improvisations.
Although her latest project, the minimalist and humorous mixtape 'But You Can't Use My Phone' (2015), dates back to a few years ago, the Queen certainly does not return to just give acte de présence. She comes to remember why she remains one of the most unique and fascinating artists of her time, and to turn the stage of Bozar into an organic, lively and unforgettable musical laboratory.
